Player of the Season
The votes are in and have been counted and verified!

  • The WCA Championship Player of the Season was won by Dean Shiels of FC Taylormade.
  • The WCA Young Player of the Season was won by Matosinhos' Sebastien Weis with 50% of the vote!
  • The WCA Premiership Player of the Season was shared by John Fleck (Crimson Fists) and Emanual Adebayor (Matosinhos)

If you don't agree with any of these - let me know in the WCA chat room - start a debate and make sure you use your vote next time!

UFFA Entrants

This season will see LetsTalkAboutCesc and Matosinhos SC represent the WCA in the Gold Cup. The Silver Cup entrants are - Cheechsters, Band of Brothers, Davos Utd and Alea lacta Est. In the Cup Winners Cup we have - Bullard FC, Sporting Club Bainy and Grantchester Utd. Finally the Youth entrants are - Matosinhos SC & Davos Utd.

Best of luck!

League Reconstruction

Due to the number of teams now in the WCA the leagues have been split into 2 divisions of 15 - because of this GA Utd, Killer Saints and Evro41 were spared relegation. However we have seen 9 new teams join us this season - good luck folks!

Not much transfer news to report this pre season - we certainly don't have the big transfers that we saw last pre-season. So LetsTalkAboutCesc remain the favourites for the WCA Premiership and newcomers Legless Ends look like the runaway favourites for the Championship.

Media Deals Agreed

Media deals for the coming season were announced yesterday, £609 million was shared between the ten federations. However it made pretty bleak reading for UFFA members.

Chart build on http://charts.hohli.com

Overall membership of the UFFA has dropped to a record low of only 570, an 8% drop from last season's membership. However, more worrying is the number of active members in the union, with only 433 active member clubs taking part in the coming season serious questions about the long term future of the union are beginning to be asked.

The PFA continues it's rise to dominance, with a record media deal worth £1.18m for each of it's 71 member clubs. Things are not so bright at the once strong XFA, who seem to be heading towards meltdown having lost half their members over the past 3 seasons, having suffered a further 25% loss in membership from last season's figures..

The writing appears to be on the wall for the NFA, with membership sitting precariously close to the minimum required (16) under UFFA regulations. Further federation consolidation would appear to be on the cards in season 10.

SFA Social Cup Season 8 Review

- Written by Lenny Bernstein (manager, Wandsworth Rovers)

The Social FA Cup once again proved this season why the competition is the most highly revered and respected cup competition in the Social FA. With cup upsets, penalty shoot-out drama and it's fair share of goals, it had all the ingredients of a classic cup. Well, until the final that is, which provided possibly the most boring 120 minutes of football that the Social FA has ever seen.

The matches in the first round went mostly according to form, although IMT Fairground came very close to knocking out eventual finalists Made in Beverly Drive, taking the Drive into extra-time in what was undoubtedly the match of the round, a 5-3 classic.

The second round also caused no major surprises, although it took an injury time goal from Neymar to seal Premiership side's Real Villains 2-1 victory over Championship new boys.

The last sixteen saw the first of the favourites knocked out - a very good Honka side beat Premiership champions Relegation Fodder 1-0. And both Made in Beverly Drive and Wandsworth Rovers warmed up for their eventual cup final shoot-out by beating Nottingham Arna and Polish Forest respectively on penalties after the ties were 1-1 after extra-time.

The quarter-finals saw another upset. In what was the match of the competition, Made in Beverly Drive came back from 2-0 down away from home against 4ytry to take the game to extra-time. The Drive looked dead and buried when Rudy Ahamada scored in the 12th minute of extra-time to reclaim the lead for 4ytry, but a last gasp goal from Medo pulled the score back to 3-3 and the Drive then sealed their upset by winning through on penalties for the second time in the compeition.

The first of the semi-finals saw Wandsworth Rovers upset London Town, once again winning through on penalties after holding the Town to a 2-2 draw, despite being out-played for most of the game. The Drive earned themselves the title of Penalty Kings when they beat Simons Staffy Bull Rovers in their third shoot-out in a row after a 1-1 draw in a game that was low on chances.

And so to the final. Perhaps predicting the boredom that was to ensue, only 7,016 fans turned up to watch one of the FA's biggest games of season. Those SFA managers who came along to spectate actually fell asleep in a turgid 0-0 draw that disappointed fans and neutrals alike. However, those that managed to stay awake/not leave/stay alive were rewarded with a fantastic penalty shoot-out, with both sides showing why they had been so lethal from the spot in previous rounds. Each side was clinical with their first five penalties before 'safe hands' Wayne Hennessey saved from Kim Heung-Keun, a cruel blow for the South Korean who otherwise had made such a great impression at the Drive since his £900,000 mid-season transfer from Mampa Miners.

The surprise top goalscorer of the tournament was 4ytry's DC Gérson, who scored an impressive 5 goals from 4 matches, which also earned him the Player of the Tournament award with a excellent 8.03 average rating. A spccial mention must also go to Honka's Gabriel Obertan who was man of the match in both his sides two matches.

SFA Premiership Season 8 Review

- Written by Amjad Parkar (manager, Made in Beverley Hills Drive)

4ytry
proved triumphant in regaining the coveted title which had been surprisingly (yet deservingly) won by Dave Parker's Relegation Fodder last season. But manager Paul Innis didn't have it all his way, as Amjad Parkar's Made in Beverley Drive mounted a late surge, even having the audacity to thrash the eventual champions 5-1 on the final day of the season. Ultimately though, defensive errors earlier in the season proved costly for the Drive, and the team had to be content with a runners up spot.

Lenny Bernstein's Wandsworth Rovers also just missed out on a Gold Cup spot, being pipped to the post by Mark Lockie's London Town. But at least the manager from south London can be content with a place in the Cup Winners Cup, having edged a tense Social Cup final against Made in Beverley Drive.

SFA Premiership Awards:
  • Manager of the Season - Paul Innis (4ytry)
  • Total Football award - London Town who managed an average team rating of 7.06 for the season (4ytry only managed 6.88)
  • Fair Play award - jointly shared by Yann Brunn's Polytech Grenoble and Joe Nico's Nottingham Arna FC.
  • Hack and Slash award - goes to Liam Keane's Ajax Trees for managing to amass a spectacular count of 67 yellow and 4 red cards.
  • Player of the Season - Jérémy Ménez (The Madrid Lions)
  • Players' Player of the Season - Naldo (London Town) with 9 Man of the Match awards.
  • Golden Boot - Graziano Lasalandra (Made in Beverley Drive) who found the net 26 times in 38 games. However, there is little doubt that had Nags Head Rovers' Anatoliy Romanyshyn not been injured for 4 games, he would have finished top scorer (25 in 34)
  • Safe Hands award - jointly shared by José de Jesús Corona (KC Milan) and Wayne Hennessey (Wandsworth Rovers) who both managed 15 clean sheets each. Although a notable mention should go to Nottingham Arna FC's Dmitry Khomich who made some fabulous saves for his team to keep them in the hunt for a UFFA place.

Game of the Season: Mongiat Rovers vs The Madrid Lions
This cracker finished 5-3, and featured some fabulous scintillating attacking play between both sides, if not solid defending. Rovers raced into a seemingly untouchable 3-0 lead through goals from Anthony Modeste and a penalty from Chris Burke. It should have been game over, but Lion's Lionel Messi had other ideas. He waltzed through the Rovers defence to make it 3-1 before setting up Jérémy Ménez to make it 3-2. The Argentine superstar then equalised, ensuring the match had all the elements of a classic. However, just when it seemed Andy Cameron's side had the upper hand, up popped Everton Ribeiro who capped a lovely Mongiat move with piledriver into the top right hand corner, before Marco Martina Rini made the points safe.

David vs Goliath Award
So many contenders, not least Made in Beverley Drive who thrashed 4ytry at the Drive on the final day of the season (Made in Beverley Drive vs 4ytry - Overview). But the award goes to Adam Richardsons Ehcoelavon, who pulled off a major upset by beating Paul Innis' side 3-1 (Ehcoelavon vs 4ytry - Overview).

The writing seemed to be on the wall when 4ytry's Rudy Ahamada took advantage of a defensive error to slot in. But Ehcoelavon's Luis equalised from the penalty spot, before goals from Adam Lallana and Steven Langil, capitalising on some lacklustre defending from the opposition, made the points safe.
